I can’t believe this baby is 1! I am happy and sad at the same time because technically he is no longer a baby and now I have no babies and soon I won’t be able to go to the front of the check in counter at the airport because i am travelling with a baby. I also realised I haven’t even had the strength to put up his birthday for fear of reliving the pain, I will put it up before the end of September.

I struggled with celebrating his birthday because I wasn’t sure I wanted to do a party for him because the way the country is set up right now is just mad, but then I don’t want it to seem like he is missing out on all the cool things Kunmi had. So I decided to go ahead and do it because I don’t want to emotionally abuse my child lol I know I am extra but this is the way i think.

So I invited 20 kids and their parents and D.I.Y’d as much as I could and I think we had a great time. If you are looking to throw a party for your child here are tips to have a cheap and cheerful celebration.

.1.  Do It Yourself: I am such a big fan of DIY, for Ire’s party, I did the party packs myself, bought the drinks and put them in the deep freezer a night before so it doubled as a drum with zero need to buy Ice. The food was cooked in house (including waffles and ice-cream for dessert) and served by the nannies with plastic plates, cutlery and cups. So no need to clean up.

.2. If you can’t D.I.Y get family to D.I.F.U – If you can’t do it yourself don’t be scared to ask someone to help, especially family and friends. My mum cooked all the food in her house and it was super people kept asking me for the name of my caterer. My Cousins also helped with Ire’s cake and it was super.

.3. Keep it simple: Don’t forget its a children’s birthday party not a wedding, keep it simple, children are fussy eaters as well just stick to the basics and trust me they will have a ball.

.4. Relax: As long as there is something to do , the kids will have a ball!
